What is Google Penguin SEO Update?

Google Penguin is an anti-spam algorithm update released by Google in April, 2012. The update is meant to lower search engine rankings of websites that are found involved in using any type of spam factors. These factors include keyword stuffing, cloaking, fake link schemes as well as duplicate or spun content. All these spam factors are commonly referred to as Black-Hat SEO strategies, and Google Penguin Update has been aimed at preventing them.

Penguin Update has shown tremendous effect on Google’s search results. Statistics have revealed that an approximate 3.1% of search queries in English have been influenced by Penguin. Its effects on Chinese, German and Arabic search queries has been estimated to be around 3%. Whereas languages other than those have been affected in much higher percentages.

With Penguin Update, Google does not aim at cutting short on the number of websites nor does it plan to penalize every site that exists on the face of the earth. The fundamental notion behind this algorithm is to prevent “Negative SEO techniques” that could bring an unjustifiable higher ranking to a website. With the advent of Penguin, prevention of “Negative SEO” has been guaranteed by Google, and internet has become a much safer place for those who truly deserve to have higher search engine ranking results.

A slightly improved version of Google Penguin Update has been released on May 25th, 2012 and it has been referred as Penguin 1.1. This revised version however came with minor changes and thus created an impact on less than 0.1% of websites. Future versions of the algorithm are expected to come with major influence on search engine rankings of websites and ensure a safe internet environment. As regards Google, they have declared Penguin Update as an adjustment algorithm rather than something to penalize those who have been spamming Google in past.

Analyzing the effect of Google Penguin Update is easy and quite noticeable. The first and foremost effect that can be easily observed is a dip in the traffic and the number of visitors of your website. If your website has faced a noticeable dive in traffic, it has probably been affected by Penguin. You may also analyze your inbound link profile to diagnose Penguin’s effect to your website.

While Google Penguin Update has disappointed spammers and unnatural link bombers, it has greatly appreciated the efforts of those who do the things right. The right doers are looking forward to better versions of Penguin Update algorithm that bring respect to their work.

Find accurate images using Google Image Search

Type a keyword like in the steps below to search for your accurate images you want.
  1. Go to Google Image Search Page (images.google.com)
  2. Type imagesize:1280x1024 filetype:jpg Nature (imagesize is the operator, 1280x1024 is the dimension and filetype is another operator to mention the image extension like JPG, BMP, etc... and finally Nature is the name/theme of the images I am looking for)

I think, you do love what you see. Bit of you didn't love then I would suggest you to try with various descriptions especially like space, cars, design, etc... you can even use this to find the movie posters e.g. Spider man, Harry potter, etc...

DoFollow VS NoFollow with Examples

Many people are confused about the difference between DoFollow and NoFollow. Today, I'm going to explain in short with examples.

You should try to get links from whichever sources available. It is a tactic in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). For exampke, you want comment in a blog, you could get a backlink, just by using this HTML code:

<a href="your link URL">your link name (anchor)</a>

When you placed this piece of code within your comment, you used to get backlink from it. It was highly beneficial for you to rank high (especially if the blog is high PageRank).
Nofollow is a HTML tag value added to the link anchor code, and will change the normal code as:

<a href=”your link URL” rel=”nofollow”>your link name < /a>

The link will be valueless and the search crawlers would not follow them to index. So, such a link is as useless as a piece of text.

A DoFollow comment will be a normal comment as in the above or will have the attribute “rel=’dofollow’” instead of nofollow, as in:

<a href=”link URL” rel=”dofollow”>link name </a>

The attribute DoFollow or no rel attribute at all means the blog link is good. Though no attribute in HTML exists as DoFollow, it means that the blog is not NoFollow, so it has the same effect of a normal backlink.
