A cover letter serves several purposes. In addition to introduction to a potential employer, it indicates an interest in the position of employment by responding to a known job openin. What is Chat Room?

Chat room and working / features of chat room

Modern society no longer needs physical presence to be able to communicate effectively. The internet has provided people with different ways to keep in contact with each other even with thousands of miles in between. One of these options is chat rooms; these are peer to peer connectivity on the internet that allows people to converse with others real time.

Chat rooms have different sections or categories depending on preferences, interests, age groups, gender etc. The themes or subjects posted on each room help the person decide whether to join the room or not. There are chat rooms that will ask for a software download and others that allows a person to join without anything except a nickname. Some ask for a username and password in order to register and others have restrictions on memberships such as those created for a particular group like companies, colleges etc. There are options to create a private chat with just one person or to have multiple conversations with different persons at the same time. You can also chat with a group and everyone will be able to see everything you type on the chat window. It used to be only text chats but through the years have evolved into allowing sharing of pictures, files and even video. There are chat rooms with moderators or administrators that check whether there are inappropriate contents on usage and there are ones that are free for all. Chat rooms can also be used for people who are playing games and this allows the players to be in contact with each other real time while playing.

Chat rooms are a great way to meet new people and create friendships. It allows you to get to know a person by discussing your likes and dislikes with them and determining whether you will click with each other without making a commitment yet. Even the popular social media sites like Facebook have integrated chat as an additional feature to enable their subscriber to keep in touch not just through status, pictures or posts but also with real time conversations. Chat rooms are a great way to relieve the monotony and boredom of real life.

Due to fast exchange of conversation and ideas, a lot of acronyms have been developed by chat room users. There are even sites that have a list of these acronyms in order to assist the new users who may not yet be familiar with the terms. Rules are also imposed and a violation may mean being kicked out of the room.

What is a Social Bookmarking Website?

With all the new technology and web-based sites that seem to be popping up these days, sometimes it is difficult to keep them all straight.  There are networking websites, educational websites, purely social websites, and social networking websites.  We all know about Facebook, Buzzfeed, Myspace, Twitter, and Pinterest.  The question is:  what exactly IS a social bookmarking websites?

The answer is fairly simple:  A social bookmarking website is a site where people can post links, or bookmarks, usually publicly, for people to see and use.  These bookmarks or links will lead to a web page or outside source.  The bookmarks use “tags”, where users can add descriptions or key words to make the links easier to find.  Probably the widest-known bookmark site right now would be Pinterest. Pinterest is a link site in which users browse pictures which are linked from other websites (or uploaded individually by
Pinterest users).  Users then “pin” these pictures to their own “boards” and others can see them, use them, or “pin” them for other users to see.  Each user can add a different “tag” to the picture when they pin it on their own wall.

Another form of social bookmarking is something most people do every single day: sending links in emails.  This simple act of sharing the link to a different web site or page is also considered social bookmarking.  These are not typical bookmarking websites, but it is a way to save links online, and share links with other people – friends, family, co-workers, and employers.  In this light, email sites such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, and others, could also be considered social bookmarking websites.

Most social bookmarking sites focus on a wide variety of subjects, but some, such as Reddit, focus more on single pages or certain subjects (such as news or media). While these sites are examples of social bookmarking, they are not what is traditionally thought of as social bookmarking sites.  They are, however, a great tool for finding information that you need.  Sites such as Reddit, Digg, and Propeller are examples of social bookmarking sites that focus on news, politics, etc. They are a great source of information because everything is in one place.

All in all, social networking is becoming very common, and many people don't even know that they are using social bookmarking.  The placement of many links and "tags" in one place is causing a "takeover" of traditional search engines like Google.  The variety of tags and keywords, all done by human beings instead of computers, make them a valuable resource.

What is Google Penguin SEO Update?

Google Penguin is an anti-spam algorithm update released by Google in April, 2012. The update is meant to lower search engine rankings of websites that are found involved in using any type of spam factors. These factors include keyword stuffing, cloaking, fake link schemes as well as duplicate or spun content. All these spam factors are commonly referred to as Black-Hat SEO strategies, and Google Penguin Update has been aimed at preventing them.

Penguin Update has shown tremendous effect on Google’s search results. Statistics have revealed that an approximate 3.1% of search queries in English have been influenced by Penguin. Its effects on Chinese, German and Arabic search queries has been estimated to be around 3%. Whereas languages other than those have been affected in much higher percentages.

With Penguin Update, Google does not aim at cutting short on the number of websites nor does it plan to penalize every site that exists on the face of the earth. The fundamental notion behind this algorithm is to prevent “Negative SEO techniques” that could bring an unjustifiable higher ranking to a website. With the advent of Penguin, prevention of “Negative SEO” has been guaranteed by Google, and internet has become a much safer place for those who truly deserve to have higher search engine ranking results.

A slightly improved version of Google Penguin Update has been released on May 25th, 2012 and it has been referred as Penguin 1.1. This revised version however came with minor changes and thus created an impact on less than 0.1% of websites. Future versions of the algorithm are expected to come with major influence on search engine rankings of websites and ensure a safe internet environment. As regards Google, they have declared Penguin Update as an adjustment algorithm rather than something to penalize those who have been spamming Google in past.

Analyzing the effect of Google Penguin Update is easy and quite noticeable. The first and foremost effect that can be easily observed is a dip in the traffic and the number of visitors of your website. If your website has faced a noticeable dive in traffic, it has probably been affected by Penguin. You may also analyze your inbound link profile to diagnose Penguin’s effect to your website.

While Google Penguin Update has disappointed spammers and unnatural link bombers, it has greatly appreciated the efforts of those who do the things right. The right doers are looking forward to better versions of Penguin Update algorithm that bring respect to their work.
